Our front desk supervisor Sonja Becker visited the World Heritage Völklinger Hütte.
Distinguished by the UNESCO, it is the only ironwork worldwide from the prime time of industrialization that is fully preserved. It is one of the most unusual world heritage sites of the UNESCO.
The circular trail through the UNESCO world heritage with 7,000 meters of well labeled paths takes about two to three hours. The multimedia introduction in the sintering plant sends the visitors on a time travel from the beginnings of the Völklinger Hütte to the present. The roof of the ore shed grants a view on the city of Völklingen and the active Saar steel mill. Through the Burden hall, the former raw materials warehouse of the Hütte, you will go to the impressive furnaces.
Besides the architecture and the cultural impressions, the Völklinger Hütte also offers alternating exhibitions, for example currently until November 24, 2019 the exhibition “Pharaohs Gold, 3,000 years of Ancient Egyptian high culture”, and until November 3, 2019 the exhibition “5. UrbanArt Biennale”.
Our front desk supervisor Sonja Becker was on site and visited both exhibitions: “It is an outstanding experience!”, she raves about it. “A perfect trip destination for all Saarland tourists”. With 150 exhibits, the exhibition Pharaohs Gold is a trip to Ancient Egypt. The exhibition provides a special glance of the gold, that possessed incredibly great religious and symbolic powers for the ancient Egyptians. Gold is not transient and cannot be destroyed. Gold is the symbol of eternity and the most holy metal of the ancient Egyptians. Therefore, they called gold the flesh of the gods.
What exactly is UrbanArt? Hardly any art movement is as versatile as the UrbanArt one, it is the art of the 21st century! UrbanArt - those are abstract pieces of art, that have their root in the graffiti writing, it is the “Walls of Freedom” during the Egyptian revolution and Shepard Fairey’s “Change” campaign for Barack Obama. Since the turn of the millennium, a new artistic direction has been forming itself worldwide with the UrbanArt, that gets involved with the collective structure of the city and at the same time fascinates the art scene more and more. UrbanArt is an art movement, whose history, meaning and potential continue to grow through the worldwide medial dissemination, regardless of national borders or cultural differences.
We will gladly advise you about your visit to the Völklinger Hütte.
